Celebrating the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, the Willard InterContinental presents its first ever Gospel Brunch featuring famed opera singer Denyce Graves. Dr. King put the finishing touches on the famous speech in his suite at the Willard Hotel the night before the pivotal August 28, 1963 March on Washington civil rights rally.
The “I Have a Dream” Gospel brunch takes place on August 25, at 11:30 a.m. in the Willard’s grand ballroom. The event features a performance of gospel and spiritual selections by Ms. Graves, and the Voices of Worship choir under the musical direction of Felicia Kessel-Crawley. Included is a sparkling wine reception, elaborate Southern-style brunch buffet by Executive Chef Luc Dendievel and a commemorative Martin Luther King keepsake. Cost for the brunch is $132 per person, including tax and gratuity. Tables of ten are available for purchase. Please call 202-637-7350 for reservations and further information.
Members of Dr. Martin Luther King’s family will be in attendance. The program includes a reading of Dr. Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech and stirring rendition of “Battle Hymn of the Republic” – penned by poet Julia Ward Howe at the Willard Hotel. A silent auction to benefit the King Foundation in Atlanta is sponsored by InterContinental® Hotels & Resorts.
The Willard InterContinental further commemorates the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington with two celebratory packages. Reservations can be made by calling: 202-628-9100 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
