Inspired by the baroque style architecture of the Oval Office at The White House, this opulent suite is dedicated to Julia Ward Howe, the celebrated abolitionist, writer, and composer. It was within the walls of The Willard in November 1861 that Howe wrote the enduring lyrics to “The Battle Hymn of the Republic,” inspired by the patriotic songs of Union soldiers she heard marching outside the hotel. A mural of Passion Flowers, referencing her 1854 book of poetry by the same name, adds a layer of literary grace and symbolism to this distinguished space.
Located on the east corner of the hotel, the suite offers picturesque views of the Washington Monument. Relax in style in the grand living room before retreating down the marble hallway to the spacious bedroom, replete with one king bed, a walk-in shower and separate soaking tub, an oversized work desk integrated with power outlets and USB charging points, as well as a Nespresso machine offering complimentary tea and coffee.
The suite also features a butler pantry with a mini-fridge, a powder room located off the entrance foyer, and two separate entrances—one directly into the bedroom for added privacy. This suite has the ability to connect to select adjacent rooms and suites.
